MDS Civil Engineering Ltd
Established in July 2000 by Chairman Roy Marfleet FCIOB and John Durman Secretary and Chairman of Durman Stearn Civil Engineering Ltd.
MDS originally set up in Dunmow and in November 2002 moved to freehold premises at High Garrett Braintree.
In 2011 Roy Marfleet purchased the shareholding from Durman & Stearn and became the Chairman.
Due to continued growth in 2017 the Company purchased the Caterpillar yard in Halstead. The yard is 3.5 acres of hardstanding with workshops and offices. MDS moved operations to this new yard in April 18.
Who we are
MDS are a specialist groundworks and civil engineering contractor who work predominantly within Essex and the borders of the surrounding counties.
Since its inception MDS core values of Health and Safety, Service to Client and quality of work have seen repeat business, full order book and an excellent reputation.
MDS focus is to identify the client’s needs, programming and delivering those needs in the safest most cost effective manner.
MDS employ approximately 200 staff 160 of which are operatives on site.
MDS own a large modern fleet of plant which will accommodate any works required.
Health & Safety
MDS Civil Engineering Ltd is committed to creating the safest working environment possible.
From the initial Company induction working in a safe manner is installed in all employees irrespective of cost.
Operatives are certified under the CSCS scheme on an ongoing basis and regular training courses are administered in our own training centre. The CSCS have recognised the MDS commitment to training by issuing the Platinum Award.
MDS employ an external safety consultant Advanced Safety Consultants who carry out regular audits on our active sites and reports acted upon.
MDS Civil Engineering Ltd is a CHAS and SMAS accredited company.
MDS have an in house NEBOSH qualified personnel.
The Workforce
The majority of MDS staff are directly employed and are trained to the high standards, quality and values that the company prides itself on.
MDS recruit and retain the best staff and ensure they adopt the core values MDS work to.
MDS workforces are all fully CSCS trained.
MDS site foreman are all qualified to SSSTS or SMSTS along with NVQ level 3 site supervision.
Where works are subcontracted out MDS use a select group of tried and tested subcontractors who are just an extension to the MDS arm and are equally well versed in the standards required.
MDS are a great believer in promoting from within and a majority of management personnel have come through the ranks.
